Brief reintroduction of Student Rights & Equity committee

    • Handles both internal and external affairs
      • Ensure senators are equitable and representative of student body
      • Interact with different communities on campus (e.g. PUENTE, UMOJA…) and ensure they have a voice at the table

    1. Fall Resource Fair

    (Committee | 10 minutes)

    Information/Discussion

This item is to discuss the Fall Resource Fair.

Ryan: RSVP form is done, to be sent to programs

Maritza: Event request needs to be done today, need to ensure programs and facilities have time to prepare for Resource Fair

Katia: Should the Resource Fair be pushed to Week 6?

Maritza: Keep Resource Fair at Week 5 so students can be connected to resources, try to have everything figured out this week, only push to Week 6 if issues arise

Katia: Interns can volunteer at Fall Resource Fair for their intern assignment, also will have a competition for interns to outreach to students regarding Resource Fair

    1. Advocacy Liaison Proposal

    (Committee | 30 minutes)

    Information/Discussion

This item is to further discuss the proposal to introduce new Advocacy Liaison positions into the senate to increase equity and diversity.

Katia reintroduces the Advocacy Liaison Proposal - students from underrepresented programs receive an extra boost in the senate to have their voice be heard

    • Liaisons appointed by respective programs, advocate for certain needs by having each representative/liaison participate in different committees

Brainstorm in pairs: What would the advocacy liaisons’ role(s) be in the senate?

Hamza: Student athlete, reaching out to athletics department

Martina: Role for the liaisons and what they do, think they provide advice and create connection between student body and DASG

CJ: For Resource Fair can provide students information about the programs and listen to their viewpoint and what they want, aligning their interests with the committees as different students have different interests, therefore increasing the connection between students and DASG. Can organize some small games to improve connection and increase engagement.

Mark: Advocacy Liaisons hold all committees accountable, write notes, and report back to SRE.

Miles: Discussed certain ways to maintain equity in other committees, e.g. ensure ES is equitable with the bike program, ensure Programs events are accessible etc.

Nishita: ALs might have to make proposals at other committees

Angeles: Get AL point of views in senate

Uriel: Ensure equity in committees outside SRE, be the voice of students uncomfortable with attending DASG meetings, create a diverse senate with diverse voices. Provide solutions to equity programs with insight from their programs or their own personal voices.

    CCCSAA
