Faculty: What Does an Internal Interaction Plan Look Like?
An Internal Plan needs to work for the faculty member and be documented in the course, so it will likely vary from instructor to instructor and come in different forms: Text document, spreadsheet, video explanation, or even an infographic; the form is not being prescribed. Furthermore, there will be a lot of variation depending on the discipline, how the instructor works best, and the size of the class. Regardless of the form, the plan should include:
- Methods you will use to communicate with your students
- How often (and when) you will communicate with your students about each of these methods
- How you want your students to communicate with you and any hierarchy (email, canvas inbox, Pronto, text, phone). It is always good to offer more than one form of communication in case of emergencies.
Using different methods to communicate with online students can aid in their retention in class. Personalizing communications can help foster a sense of community and help avoid the sense of isolation that some online students experience.
SAMPLE Internal Interaction Plans
The sample plans are 12 weeks (quarter long) and can be edited for your situation. You can access each tab for a different type of Internal Interaction Plan. When you find one you would like to try:
- Select All, copy and paste the information into a Canvas page
- Save the page as "internal interaction plan"
- Place the Canvas page in your instructor hidden module in each course
-
Interactive
Please make a copy of De Anza's Internal Plan Template which is a Google Spreadsheet.
