Student judicial Affairs Hearing Boards are responsible for reviewing potential violations of the Student Code of Conduct adopted by the Foothill-De Anza Community College District (Administrative Procedure 5510)  and other rules, policies and regulations including Title IX cases.

Board members serve as hearing officers for cases that could result in suspension or expulsion from the college. Members may also serve on student grievance hearing boards, which provide a prompt and equitable process for resolving student concerns and disputes when a student reasonably believes a college decision or action has adversely affected his or her status, rights or privileges.

Faculty appointments to the boards are made by the Academic Senate on an as-needed basis, with necessary training and information provided during individual and group sessions, depending on the faculty member's availability.

  • Board members are expected to receive training before participating in a hearing. New members will be scheduled for training soon after they are selected, so they can receive the basics for participation on the board. Training includes online and in-person  sessions.
  • Following new member training, board members gain additional training by observing board hearings and participating in additional individual training sessions. In most cases, board members are fully trained and ready to participate as a hearing officer within a few weeks. Because of the current pandemic, trainings will be held via Zoom instead of in person.

All board members are expected to agree and abide by the confidentiality and ethical standards established by the college, FERPA and the Foothill-De Anza district board of trustees.
